Laundry. It’s Ying and Yang at our house. John has the boarding school discipline of doing his laundry and matching every single sock. Me, well, I am a true procrastinator and cannot get it done quite as efficiently. I have an unmatched sock container that I sometimes talk him into helping me sort. He does it but the commentary is predictable and I often ask myself why I do this to myself! The days of him doing my laundry ended when we were newly engaged and in his helpful ways….my Donna Karan cashmere sweater was tossed in and came out itty bitty…..ruined. That was the day, my friends, we drew the line. You do yours. I will do mine.”⁣

?Recently, I have been curious to try “Stripping” of my workout gear and more casual items.⁣

?You may not realize that when you pull your freshly cleaned laundry, towels, and bedding out of the wash, there are still hidden layers of dirt, hard water, and oil build-up that gets stuck in your fabrics, even with washing. Stripping removes these build-ups and leaves everything smelling and looking new. It has been highly recommended for workout wear that always has that lingering smell.⁣

?The key is to allow your fabrics to soak for 4 to 6 hours in a tub or large container with hot water. Make sure to sort them by color.⁣

Stripping Mixture:⁣

1/4 cup Borax⁣
1/4 cup Baking Soda⁣
Generous scope of your non-toxic laundry detergent*. We like to opt for Non-Toxic Brands.⁣
Hot, Hot water!⁣

Once you have allowed your clothes to soak for at least four hours, stirring every hour. Drain and wash in a regular washing machine cycle. Those who have tried say you may be grossed out by the color of the soaking water when you are done, but to know that is no longer lingering in your clothes, you will want to strip your fabrics often.
